Merry Post Its

These post it note covers make such a cute, and speedy, little gift. I **think** I just found my Christmas card color combination. Rose Red and River Rock.

The flower is stamped on shimmery white paper and then I added an Ice Rhinestone brad. The wide width grosgrain ribbon in vanilla is secured with two antique brads. The background is canvas stamped in river rock on whisper white, then stamped over with the swirls from "Season of Joy."

If you haven't made one of these post it note covers yet, you can find a tutorial for them at Emily's Blog. Now, back to my regularly scheduled mass production of cards!

And the winners are.....

Random.org generated the following numbers: 18, 15 and 38.

The lucky winners are:

18: Elaine will win the 4 pack of stamps and she said...

"Best memory of the summer...gosh there are two that I am fond of:1) Spending the evening with our neighbors who just returned from France after being gone for more than a year.2) Sharing the garden harvest that my hubby carefully tended to (this being his first year to have a veggie garden), with co-workers who were ecstatic to have 'home grown' in their possession!"

15: Cathy wins the first package of assorted papers and said...
"I'm going to stay my job ending and making it into a positive. We decision to move back to Nashville, Tn. We just love it there. Thanks for a chance."

38: Sharon in NE wins the second package of papers and said...
"Laying on the beach in Key West as my son and husband enjoyed the warm waves of the ocean."

It was so great to read all your comments of so many wonderful things from the summer. Personally, my favorite memory of the summer was our trip to Nantucket for the fourth of July. The weather was outstanding, the boys had so much fun and I just love celebrating that holiday there! And this sounds SO cheesy, but I had so much fun watching the look of sheer glee when my elder son rode on the roller-coaster at the local town carnival on his birthday!

I'm looking forward to Labor Day weekend for our last big hurrah of the summer. Next week my son returns to preschool, new daycare clients will be starting and before we know it....fuzzy sweaters, apple picking, pumpkin carving but best of all - My Sister's Wedding!

Cathy, you left your email address so I'll contact you. Sharon, I think I can get to yours through your profile, and Elaine, I'm off to check your blog. If you don't hear from me, you can email me at stampedbyhand@comcast.net. Thanks to everyone who played!

Thank you so much!

I can't thank you all enough for all the super sweet comments on the frame, and sparkle elephant card! Its always nice to know I'm not just talking to myself!! And after a really challenging weekend with Little Man, they really brightened up my mood, so thanks so much!

And, thank you all for your kind words, and support with my Diet Coke reduction plan (wink!) I was a good doobie today. One D.C. before lunch and then on the way to the pool, the boys and I stopped by Burger King for Icees. Mine, of course, was a frozen coke. YUM! The boys split a blue raspberry one!

Ribbon Sampler Anyone?

Just back from my monthly Amy's Awesome Addicts meeting. By the way -- Hello to any fellow Triple A's who are checking in! -- I actually didn't make swaps for the meeting this month because I've been so busy lately. However, I did see some really great ones and I was so bummed I didn't participate... I'll just have to look forward to my mini catalogue swaps that I'll have in early September!!

Amy and the other girls that just attended convention shared some of their new techniques they picked up. My friend Jen gave an amazing tutorial on watercoloring that I know is going to end with me buying water color paper and some water color brushes. The results were stunning. I'll email her and see if she's cool with me posting her samples.

I also saw this amazing ribbon sampler that my friend Besty makes. Gorgeous! If you're a demo and you want to show your customers all the various ribbons available in the collections, this is a super affordable way to get your hands on it. Its also portable, which is key if you're bringing class materials out to a client's home.

Ribbon Samplers are available for $15. If you're interested in one, or any of Betsy's other handy tools (file folder tabs for your cardstock, designer paper sample rings, or cardstock rings) please email me at stampedbyhand@comcast.net and I will put you in touch with her.

And, I'm now the lucky owner of the Stampin Up magnets and a Stampin Up baseball cap that my friend Laura picked up for me at convention. Some day, I'll get over my envy that she got to attend convention..... Thanks Laura!!

Giving Up my Vice.....

Diet Coke. I swear, if you opened up my veins, you'd see it coursing through my system. It is definitely unhealthy how much of it I consume on a daily basis. I can't even tell you how much, because it is simply embarrassing..

So, I promised my husband this past weekend that I'd cut back. I'm down to two a day. And trust me, that's WAY back.

Today, my head hurts. Hurts so badly, wants caffeine. I just made myself a big old pitcher of iced tea to try to switch that into my rotation. Seltzer water gives me a stomach ache, plain water is well, just that, plain.

So wish me well on my Diet Coke reduction plan. I'm off to sip my rationed glass very slowly.

Sweet Froggy Frame

I finally got some time to make something new last night! YEAH!

My cousin asked me to create a baby frame for a friend of hers that is pregnant. The baby's room has a froggy theme. I usually include a monogram, but since the baby hasn't been born, I had to make it more simple.

However, since I didn't have that monogoram eating up so much real estate in the piece, I was able to use a scalloped strip across the center and some Wild Wasabi double stitched ribbon. Which by the way, is such a nice contrast against the Certainly Celery.

With the use of my crop o dile, I punched a circle in the center of each "loop" of the scallop. Then I placed a white strip on the backside to show through the holes.

The big white space, well, that's where the picture of the new baby will be placed. Impossible to see in this photo, but the yellow mat for the photo is paper pierced and then faux stitched with a white gel pen.

I Cherish Soft Sky!

I know I've shown you a version of this card before, but following Kirsten DuBosque's lead, I've transformed my ATC into a baby card. I thought this was such a clever idea when she showed it -- maybe a month ago?

So, when I sent my ATC's out to Julie I tucked this little card in her baggie. Julie has been a super "virtual" friend to me since I started this blog. She's always dropping by to comment and her blog is wonderful! She's recently been added to the design team for Paper Pretties, and its no wonder, her work is so pretty!

This argyle pattern I thought was so cute for a baby boy card, and the centers of the argyle showed me exactly where to pop my brads through so they'd line up nice and straight! I'm loving the designer prints paper. I just got the Saffron, Old Olive and Close to Cocoa versions. I'm totally addicted to the stuff.

Triple Candy!

As promised, its blog candy time! My poor blog has been neglected the past two weeks. I've been in mass production mode on several projects and haven't had time to write much, or make anything new! It makes me CRABBY not to have time to play with all my stuff.

However, to thank all of you that drop by to see what I'm off to, and to some of my favorite visitors that always pop in to leave me a little note, I'm offering up three little blog candy prizes.

The first is a set of four Kolette Hall stamps from Michael's Dollar Spot.

The second and third packages are assortments of paper from my "stash"

I will collect entries till Thursday night at 8pm. Here's all you have to do to enter. Tell me your most favorite memory of this summer. I mean really, can you believe that it is nearly Labor Day? Lots of my friends have their children beginning kindergarten tomorrow morning. I feel like they JUST got out of school.

At 8pm Thursday night, random.org will select three winners!

Thanks for dropping by, and I hope to have some NEW stuff to show you soon.

Blog Candy is Coming!

To celebrate the 20K hits milestone, I'll be offering up some blog candy tonight. I have stuff pulled aside, just have to take a photo and come up with a "contest." Tonight I've got to complete my Holiday Mini Swaps which I mentioned in this post. Honestly, what was I thinking with all this paper piercing and faux stitching. Yikes!

So, remember... come on back for candy!

Desperatley Seeking Beth!

Just received a wonderful offer from "Bethtrue" that she'd loan me her snap stamps, but now I don't have an email! If you are Beth, or know Beth, please contact me at stampedbyhand@comcast.net or post here with your email address. Thanks SO much! You're a lifesaver!

Snap Stamp Panic - Can you help?

I've been searching around for a set of Karen Foster Snap Stamps - Casual Font sized Small. I have a set of mini ones, but a client has asked for a larger font on a card that I've created for her.

To my great shock yesterday, I found that they have been discontinued!!! AIIIIEEE! I immediately emailed them and said "WHAT? You can't!" Apparently, several other consumers have done the same. I received a response from the company that they are in the planning process of a new font, but that could be months.

So, my question is, do any of you have a set for sale? Or would you consider loaning them to me for a week? I'd be happy to pay for shipping, etc, and would promise promise to get them back to you safely.

Discontinuing Snap Stamps? Really, what were they thinking??

A Crazy Busy Week

I've had a large client order in the works this week, so there hasn't been much time for blogging. And, I've been having a really hard time with Little Man this week, major temper tantrums.

However, now that the project is complete, I can show you what's had me all tied up:These are 10 altered tins from Stampendous, that I purchased from Eclectic Paperie. And, since I have a pretty sizeable stash of designer paper I was able to do eight of these with paper from my inventory! Okay, I could have made all 10 from existing paper, but I just **happened** to run across some new paper I really liked at my local scrapbooking store!

I won't bore you with ALL the details, but will say that these tins use some Crate Paper from E.P., some Stampin Up paper I had from last christmas that I LOVE!, some Au Chocolat Paper from SU's spring mini, as well as some new Cosmo Cricket Dutch Girl paper, my Marvy Uchida oval punches, various stamps including several sentiments from PaperTrey Ink, ribbon from a Jodi (Confessions of a Ribbon Addict) Ribbonshare, as well as some of my Primas from a Jodi Prima share. Eric came to my rescue by loaning me her Coluzzle (I really need to get one of those...) to cut circles large enough for the tops of the tins. A few tins have matching gift notes 3x3 inside.

It was fun to play in my stash this week, and I hope she likes them. Here's an up close photo of my favorite one.

Fall Flowers

Beate does a sketch challenge every weekend, and last night, I carved aside some time to join in on the fun.

My sample for the uses my new Designer Series Fall Flowers paper from Stampin' Up as well as Sahara Sand, Old Olive and Really Rust cardstock.

I used the "Priceless" stamp set from Stampin' Up for the sentiment and the little butterfly image. The butterfly is stamped on Shimmery White paper to brighten it up a little bit. It is so hard to see here, but the swirls from priceless are stamped in versamark to leave a watermark on the sahara sand layer. I would have used S.Sand ink, but I don't own any. At least, not yet that is!

Be sure to stop by her blog to check out the other submissions using this sketch.

I've had a "Big Buckle" card on my to do list quite literally for months, and I finally bumped it to the top of my list and started measuring and cutting up the paper. I followed a tutorial at Splitcoast Stampers for the measurements. It was so easy, just a matter of figuring out what stamps and paper I wanted to use! I settled on "So Very Happy" for the flower, along with some double stitched Soft Sky ribbon for the main image, and then used the sentiment "Friendship" from a set I picked up to help replace one of my favorite retired sets from last year - Riveting. I'm without catalogue right now, and in a little rush, so I'll come back and edit the post to include the name of the set. Bad girl. Too many new stamp sets to recall their names. Bad, bad, bad.

I'll be demonstrating both of these cards at my upcoming Fall Flowers Card Class. The class will be held at my home in early October. If you're interested in attending or recieving a kit to make the cards at home, please email me at basilefamily@comcast.net.

Thank Goodness for Naps!

The UPS man arrived today SUPER early. I was expecting a delivery for my clients (nothing for me - good girl!) and I heard him drive up around 1:30. Usually I'm an after 7pm delivery! So, I rushed out, grabbed the box and sorted it all out.

Then, I was ready to tackle dishes from lunch. But I checked my email and found a note from my husband asking what the chances are that I could "whip up" a card. He said if need be he could swing by the store to buy one instead (gasp!!) my little man woke up from nap as I was wrapping up and assembling, so he was excited to get to have not one, but two Popsicles while I finished up.

This card uses my new standby for wedding cards "Baroque Motifs" and I thought it was a perfect excuse to use my new, not yet mounted "Tres Chic" and I just love it. Its so versatile. Thanks to Beate for using it on a streak of cards the last two weeks that I had to break down and move it off the "wish list" and into my shopping cart. The ice rhinestone brads are so wonderful, I love having an excuse to use them. In addition to adding a little sparkle, they add a lot of dimension to a card as the brads don't sit flat against the paper.

Big kids are about to wake up from their naps (they go down later than the little man) so I have two seconds to clean up the evidence of popsicles off the table!

Winter Mini Swaps

If you're in the "Triple A" Holiday Mini Swap hosted by Tracy and you don't want a sneek peek then look away!

My holiday mini preorder arrived the other day (I was a good doobie and bought only one set! I shocked even myself!) and if you haven't heard, all the stamps in the mini catalogues are now die cut! All you have to do is peel and stick them to the blocks. Really, how GREAT is that. It made it so easy to get started. Wow, thanks Stampin Up!

So, I'm participating in a swap with my local demo group that where I will recieve a card sample of every stamp in the mini catalogue! I can't wait. I'm such a nerd, I think I was the very first person to sign up for Tracy's swap.

Initially, I was going to use Wild Wasabi and Purely Pomegranate for the card, but I really wanted to use the large stamp with all the sentiments on it, and I needed markers to do it. So, along those same lines, I picked Old Olive, Certainly Celery, Rose Red and Bashful Blue for my palette. Coloring in all the words doesn't make this fun for mass production, but I think its so cute!

I finally ordered some shimmery white, and I used it to pop up the snowflake image inside the word "JOY." Faux stitching all around the rose red mat with what one of my clients once refered to as "the pokey stick" which still cracks me up. I also pierced all along the swirly background on the Cert Celery layer. Again, not fun for mass production, but I love the effect.

The new technique that I've been seeing is to add a little dot with the crop- o-dile. Instead of bradding each corner of the old olive layer, I simply lined up my Crop O Dile in each corner and created a little bump with the "a" tab.

The only thing I'd change would be to use the new Bashful Blue taffeta ribbon, but I'm sworn off any new orders for a while. I've got to play with the LOADS of new stuff I have in stock.

By the way, you have to pop over to Beate's blog to see what she's done with this set. Her work blows my mind. I can't wait to find some time to make a spinner card like this.

Aug 14, 2007

Oh Baby.

Here is my ATC that I'm sending to everyone that participated in my recent "In Color ATC" swap.

I'm waiting for one more card, then they'll go postal, and then I'll share photos of each card with you!

I wish I knew someone with a new baby boy at home, because these were so fun to do! And, because I can't help myself, these have just a little bit of dazzling diamonds on the top. I mean really, why can't an elephant be covered with glitter instead of dirt?

Hope they (and, of course all of you) like them.

Blog Candy Winner

Thank you to everyone that came to comment on the Bachelorette Blog Candy. We had SUCH a fun time last night.

We started with yummy tapas ... had our pictures taken on the front of a fire truck with all the men on duty last night -- my sister wearing a fireman's coat -- and ended the night with several of us taking a ride on a mechanical bull. It was HILARIOUS. (I'm waiting on pictures from the two girls with cameras...)

My favorite drink of the night was the sangria we had with dinner at this amazing little find of a restaurant BarLola in Boston -- thanks Jennie! I'd go all the way back for the sangria and the garlicky shrimp (and the chicken empanada, and the chocolate torta and the crabcake.... wow)!
Later, with a little twist of the arm, I also had a lemon drop shot with my new friend Jennie (my sisters good friend). Thank goodness for all the aforementioned snacks that I didn't get "silly"!
I'm waiting on copies of photos from two friends of ours that brought cameras - it was a funny funny night with lots of laughs. Congratulations little sister. Well done!
Without any further ado, I will announce the winner of the blog candy. Random.org selected the number 24 which was Kristin with the Pink Peartini. YUM. Hmm. I've had those "Absolute Pears" on my shopping list for a while, the next time I pick up a bottle of wine, I'll have to remember to grab that too! Kristin - I know how to reach you, so I'll be in touch!
Thanks to everyone with all your tasty recipes, and snack suggestions too. I'll be back with more blog candy when I reach 20K posts, which from the looks of the counter, won't be tooo long from now. Stay tuned!
After a full 24 hours away from home, I've come home to a mountain of laundry to be folded. My hopes of stamping tonight have been dashed, but there's always tomorrow.

Bachelorette Blog Candy

Tomorrow night we're having a girls night out for my sister. We're calling it an "Un-Bachelorette" party because we're going out for Tapas (yum yum yum!!) and then out for drinks. We'll be behaving (a far cry from my bachelorette party a million years ago --- eeks!) and I promised no naughty necklaces, water bottles or t-shirts covered in lifesavers. Me, I'm excited for girls night, staying in a hotel, staying out late, and not having to wake up at the crack of dawn with my littlest one.... sleeping in, what a concept!

So to celebrate girls night I'm offering up a bra for blog candy! Not the kind you wear silly, but the cute little ones made by Prima and filled with flowers. To enter this contest, please post your favorite girly cocktail that you enjoy (or if you don't drink your favorite snack will do!)

Random.org will select a winner on Sunday night when I get home. So, entries accepted till 7:30pm on Sunday! I'm sure I'll have at least a few silly stories for you Sunday night!

Switch it Up!

Armed with a delivery from the man in brown containing my new Linen Prints designer series paper, and the Flowers and Flourish stamp set (as well as a layout cased from a recent Amy's Awesome Addicts meeting) I sat down to my stamp table earlier this week.

These cards use the new wide width grosgrain ribbon from Stampin Up. This ribbon makes it so easy to tie a pretty bow. And it holds up so nicely on the cards. The Apricot version has an ice rhinestone brad in the center, the Close to Cocoa version has a So Saffron brad in the center. I love the versatility of this pattern. It can either be springy and girly, or can be warm and a little bit more calm. Too bad you can't buy this piece over and over again, its my favorite in the pack.
Mr Brown is back today with goodies that I'll be using to make samples for an upcoming September class I'll be running using the Fall Flowers designer paper. Can't wait to get started! And, I think my preorder is coming from the Winter Mini as well. Got winter swaps to work on!

Five!

As I tucked the Big Boy in last night, he wanted me to stay for extra snuggles and I said "But I have to go make your birthday card." I was then given specific instructions that the card should be orange and green (no shock, his favorite colors!) and should have stripes. Lucky for me, I had paper that would suit the order perfectly!

This is from a now retired simply scrappin kit from Stampin Up. Coincidentally, I used this kit to make his scrapbook page for his fourth birthday last year!

Every year, our church has a big carnival just a little over a mile from our house. Its usually the weekend just after his birthday, but based on where it falls this year, tonight is the opening night of the carnival. There is nothing my boy loves as much as a carnival - the "Daddy Slide" and the "Crazy Bus" are his favorites, and so far, his little brother seems to enjoy the mayhem as much as he does. In fact, I can no longer pull out of my development and take a right or there is a chorus of "CRAZY BUS!!" coming from the Little Man who doesn't understand that it isn't yet open..So, instead of a nice family party tonight, we're loading on the bug spray, and hitting the carnival.

He opened his presents this morning before camp, as my husband has a meeting which will run a little late tonight... so this afternoon he got some time to play with his new scooter! I couldn't get a picture of him smiling while riding, because he was SO FOCUSED on learning how to use it. My head is pounding, and I'd rather take a nap, or stamp, or have a glass of wine, but it will have to wait a few hours...

Cutie Pie!

I'm going to have to buy a lot more Cutie Pie paper. I just love using it. And, I love that in this assorted pack, I like every single design offered. Usually there is one design that I just scratch my head over....

This card also uses one of my new standby sets "In the Spotlight." This is a level two hostess reward for Stampin Up in the new catalogue, and I find myself using it quite a bit lately.

This was a quick and simple card, but I thought it was sweet nonetheless. I made this for a client and tucked it in her mailbox yesterday with a catalogue. I wanted to make something that wasn't too complicated so that I didn't scare her away! (wink!)

First Tile Class Sample

Here's the first sample for an upcoming Tumbled Tiles session I'll be running in September. We'll be using tumbled travertine tile to make coasters using Stampin' Up products.

I'm waiting on the arrival of my pre-order from the Holiday Mini for the holiday version, but here is the "Wild Rose" sample.

Many thanks to Betsy H for loaning me the stamp set to give this a try. I was thinking of using the new french script background from SU, but realized that the swirls from Doodle This would also have a really nice effect, without having to mask (which I think will speed the process for those of us making multiple sets!!)

I also made a sample using Baroque Motifs. If I had it to do over again, I would have put the "kind" all the way to the far right corner.
I was playing with the background thinking I'd use it with the rose, but then just really liked the swirls on their own. Then, there wasn't room for a sentiment on any corner, and I just tucked it in there. Oh well, I guess that's why we make "samples."

Aug 6, 2007

Wild About Wasabi

I warned you last night, I'm living in a monochromatic world right now. This was my last piece of Wild Wasabi paper. I love that stuff!

The top of the card uses Stampin Up's new "Uptown" designer paper. The flower is from the hostess set "In the Spotlight" and I punched it out with my handy new Five Petal flower punch. The second layer is a wild wasabi punch out that I first stamped in wild wasabi with the paisley background. My favorite - double stitched ribbon.

A dear friend of mine is a realtor and was looking for a very specific sentiment for her cards. Thank goodness for Karen Foster Snap Stamps. I was able to make the sentiment "Thanks for coming to my open house." Those snap stamps, man, so handy! Thanks for Taylor and Jen Del Muro for pointing those out to me! A small strip of paper piercing across the bottom as my "monochromaticness" is starting to bother me.... figure if I'm not going to add color, I'll add detail instead.

Playing Along

I apologize that I haven't been able to post much lately. Its been even crazier around here than usual... This weekend we celebrated the big boys birthday, attended a wedding, and yesterday we took the boys to a local farm to see all the animals. I'm beat!

However, last night, I was so antsy to stamp. I've really wanted to play in Beate's weekend sketch challenge. I've been admiring all her sketches, and all the cards that people have been making playing along. Finally I got some time to play, and it was so fun!

I used my new paper, Linen Prints and my new Flowers and Flourish stamp set (both from Stampin Up) and followed Beate's sketch. I stamped the flower twice, once on the oval which is punched out with my Marvy Punches, and then again on whisper white and I trimmed it out. I anchored the second flower using one of my Ice Circle brads from SU. The Apricot layer on the inside is stamped with linen background and then I sponged the edges as well. I'm sure I'll be using this layout again (when my preorder for the Mini comes later this week).

Thanks Beate for the continued inspiration (oh, and the constant enabling for all the new sets I **need** to have).

You can find her original sketch, sample and all the other readers versions by checking this post

Monochromatic Me

I'm loving the monochromatic look lately as you'll see in both tonight, and again in tomorrow's post.

The new designer paper is just so pretty, and being double sided, there are so many options. I know I've mentioned it so many times, but I'm simply in love with the coordinated double stitched ribbon.

At first, I felt badly not adding more colors in here, but then I loved how calm this card is. If you look closely you'll find scalloped edges, a teeny white border mat, double stitched ribbon, two layers of the doodle flower, aquapainting and sakura stardust pen on the doodled flowers.

Chipboard Clipboard

Here's the sample for this months Project Club. We're using the new Stampin' Up chipboard clipboards to create a "message center." I've attached a pack of post it notes and there is small pocket to tuck in a note, receipt or a pen.

I have to say that I LOVE how easily these take to ink. To begin I coated the entire front face of the board with Rose Red craft ink. I took a paperclip and twisted it to hold the "clip" on the clipboard open so that I could work around it. And then I used a Q-tip to get in the nooks and crannies where I couldn't squeeze the ink pad in.

The board is embellished with the Cutie Pie designer paper and some chipboard flowers. I've also used my new, handy five flower punch as well as brads and a button to match.

I had hoped to get over to the craft store today to buy a more sturdy plate rack for mine (the one I use to prop up my cards for photos is too lightweight to hold it up....) Alternately, you could attach magnets to the back and hang it on the fridge.

I spent last night measuring ribbon from a ribbon share that I ran in July. This one ribbon share makes me totally AWESTRUCK with how Jodi a.k.a. Confessions of a Ribbon Addict (see the link on my Blog Stalking to the bottom right of this page) cuts, sorts and mails all the ribbon she does every month. Wow. I have another 14 rolls to tackle tomorrow night!
